Born, raised, and educated in Scotland. Relocated to the Bay Area in the mid-90s. Worked as a scientist researching molecular and cellular systems. During the COVID lockdown, I concluded that it was time for a change. I now spend my days:
Writing: Currently working on a series of essays that recall memories from distant times and far-flung places. I’m also piecing together a long-form work (which might be a book, but probably won’t) on more recent transitions and the nature of life.
Reading: Lanark by Alasdair Gray and Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac
Listening: The Viagra Boys, Spotify on random play, and ’80s Scottish bands.
And:
- Learning Tai Chi (albeit painfully slowly)
- Searching for the perfect pen/pencil/paper combo
- Promoting the California Writers’ Club Berkeley Branch
- Making pilgrimages to City Lights Books
- Taking photos in the hope of getting a good one
- Planning travel
